So its Wednesday, July 22, day 2..so let me fill you in on yesterday after surgery…the hubby was immediately brought to ICU (once a bed opened)…
I was able to finally see him at 430pm (surgery finished at 12)…the nurses told me that they had a hard time getting the tube down for intubation and that while he was under he bit his tongue…I found out this morning that while he was under that he was being monitored and the neuro doctor was basically shocking his body which made him move to make sure that there was no loss of movement and a connection from the brain to spinal cord was remaining during the brain surgery and nothing was being damaged…in doing so, everytime they shocked him his teeth clinched together and the bite plate had moved…so everytime he clenched his teeth he bit his tongue…ENT was brought in immediately to evaluate since he bit it so bad…
Later in the evening, his pain hit a 10 and the doctor was called and pain meds were adjusted…and due to his blood pressure not lowering he had to be put on IV bp meds…
After the hubby went to sleep, I went to the room to check on the baby and rest…so that sums up the eventful day of surgery…
Now to today, I came back early Wednesday morning to be there when the doctor came in…
Speech was called in due to his tongue being so swollen (it still is, he has barely eaten or drank because he is having trouble swallowing)…
Around mid morning, it was found that his potassium was very low.. little did we know the pain he was about to experience…since he couldn’t swallow, he was given potassium through IV which is extremely painful…he had to have 4 bags that lasted 30 minutes each (if he could have he would of come out of the bed)…he said it felt like his hand was being crushed over and over…it was agony and so difficult to watch…
So fast forward to now (6:29pm on day 2)…we have been moved out of ICU, no IV connections, on muscle relaxers and a little pain meds…and we are in regular room…the hard part is due to this pandemic I can only be with him 7am-7pm now…but he is doing well and pressing through slowly…

Continue to stand with us as the recovery begins….
